I had planned on using Matthew as a tripod, while I modelled our lovely new pram, but he came out and set straight to modelling so perfectly I decided I had to use one of these images! Doesn’t he make a good-looking Dada?

Today was very exciting as our Baby Box arrived, and we unboxed our pram which has been waiting in Matthew’s parents garage for a couple of weeks, waiting for our arrival. I patiently waited (napped for two hours) for Matthew to get home, instead of opening it all myself! Then we had lots of “Aww” moments, lifting out the various sizes of baby clothes and books, and assembling our cute Cosatto pram. It’s definitely all feeling real now!

I’ve been rather emotional this week, whenever I look at Matthew. This has been a big year for us! Deciding to try for a baby, and getting pregnant much sooner than we expected (much to our delight!), Matthew coming round to the idea of moving to Inverness so looking for jobs up here, to then be approached by an agency saying they have a job they think would be suitable for him in Inverness (and basically being offered the job without an actual Interview!), putting our flat on the market, saying “see you later!” to friends and family in Aberdeen and moving in with Matthew’s parents here in Inverness, finishing his old job and starting his new job in the space of a weekend! There’s been a lot going on, and he has taken everything in his stride! He has worked so hard and has transitioned to our new life in Inverness so smoothly; heading off to his new job on Monday morning as if he’d already been doing it for months! I’m incredibly proud of him for providing for our growing family, and it just makes me rather emotional thinking about how wonderful he is! He was a brave guy, asking me out five and a half years ago, not having a clue this was where his life would lead.

I do feel bad that I’ve only had the occasional job this year, and it’s all been on him to bring home the pennies. I miss working! But I am very excited for my new job to start in around six weeks time! Be prepared for many newborn photos to be flooding my Instagram feed…

Today was a good day. Our second last Sunday at Bon Accord, chatting with the wonderful church family I’ve been part of for 20 years, then coming home and putting my feet up for the rest of the afternoon because my body was exhausted and my wonderful husband told me to rest while he made lunch, did the dishes and walked the dog. What a man, what a man, what a man, what a mighty good man! Considering he’s the one that spent the previous day lugging heavy boxes and furniture in and out of a van and driving that van back and forth to Inverness, I felt kinda guilty! But, I am so thankful for his sweetness, as my body did not want to move from that sofa!

When we got home from church in the evening I did do a tiny bit of tidying, in preparation for the Surveyor coming on Monday morning, but then I popped my feet up again and grabbed that fresh tub of Ben & Jerry’s from the freezer. Yay!

Happy 8th Birthday, Finlay! Please stop growing up. But if you must continue to grow, please don’t ever stop accepting my hugs.

We were all quite tired after all the partying at Sarah and Ollie’s Engagement party last night so we had a chilled party at Mum’s for Fin’s birthday. Sarah made us a delicious lasagne and baked the birthday cake. Fin had just been outside playing football in the rain with his Dad, hence the crazy hair. Darcy was quite mesmerised by the candle…thankfully she didn’t try to lick the cake! Jasper was no doubt hiding behind a chair because my brother Ali was there and he’s still terrified of him…one year on.

How gorgeous are these two!? And how happy are we that the torrential rain and lightning storms took a break for their engagement party!? So so happy!

We had such a lovely afternoon/evening/night out at my aunt and uncles celebrating Sarah and Ollie’s engagement with family and friends. Delicious food made by my uncle, as always, and a fantastic playlist put together by Sarah & Ollie which I will be listening to on a regular basis. So crazy to think Baby Mac will be walking around at their wedding!

HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY, indeed! Who doesn’t love licking the spoon when you’re making brownies?! Mmm mmmm mm! We made brownies for 60 people this afternoon in preparation for our beautiful cousin’s engagement party tomorrow. We may have cut off some of the edges and kept them for ourselves…quality over quantity!

Well, isn’t this the year of big announcements…Matthew and I have got some crazy news for y’all; we’re moving to Inverness!! In four weeks!

I’ve wanted to move north for a number of years now, and back in April Matthew finally came round to the idea and we started looking in to it. Recently Matts has applied to a few jobs in the area, and last week he was offered a job! He starts in 4 weeks so this past week has been a bit of a whirlwind. We’ve had someone in to value the flat and I bought boxes and made a start at packing. I wanted to get one final family photo in our lovely first home before we started taking photos off the wall and packing everything away…slightly emotional! Can we all just take a moment to appreciate our adorable dog, and the fact that he jumped up on that foot stool and looked at the camera ALL BY HIMSELF! We’ve been nailing this self timer family portrait thing recently!

So yeah…crazy times ahead! Baby Mac will be here in the next 9-13 weeks (hopefully not any sooner with all the excitement of what’s going on!) and in that time Matthew will be finishing this job and starting a new one in the space of a few days, we’ll be putting the flat up for sale, and hopefully selling it quickly so we’re able to find a new home in Inverness (so if you know anyone looking for a beautiful, bright, two bed flat in Aberdeen send them our way)! Thankfully, in the mean time, we can live with Matthew’s folks, but we do hope to have somewhere of our own before Baby Mac makes an appearance.

It’s a slightly emotional time, as Aberdeen has been my home for 21 years and we have wonderful family and friends here, it’s where Matthew came to study, where we met and started our life as Mr and Mrs Macleod, and we are very sad to be leaving, but we’re also excited for new adventures and feel like Inverness is the right place to be!

I’m not usually one to complain about the heat…but usually when it’s this hot I’m lying by a swimming pool or a beach with lovely water I can swim in, not just walking around living out every day life. I could definitely get used to it! If the weather stays like this long enough then we will acclimatise to it, and then wearing shorts and dresses without cardigans or jackets every day would be wonderful (although I’d still love to have a water feature of some kind nearby that I could jump in to)!

But at the moment we’re not used to it, and I don’t know about you but I was a sweaty mess today! My sister and I headed in to town to get a few bits n pieces for upcoming parties and birthdays (I didn’t buy a thing! Go me!), and then we headed to Duthie Park to let Jasper have a run around with his ball.

By the time I got home I needed a second shower of the day, I felt so clammy! Unfortunately I also needed a nap, and then we had to do a food shop, so apologies to anyone who was in LIDL’s last night and caught a whiff of sweaty betty me!

I love movement in photographs! Elsie’s outfit was so perfect for twirls in Mum’s back garden this afternoon so I pulled myself out of my food coma and off the sun lounger to snap a few photos. It’s always wonderful having my muses back in town!

I spent about half an hour, sweaty and red post shower (yeah, I know! You try being 28 weeks pregnant on a humid day), trying to get a self-portrait for today’s post, but I couldn’t figure out what expression I wanted; smiling just felt forced. Then Matthew got home from work and I asked if he would jump in on the photo too…job done in less than a minute! Real life moment right here. Bedside tables covered in our mess, an unmade bed because Jasper barfed on it when we got up this morning, and happy happy faces.

Today I want to be real, as I am inspired to be daily by so many creative women on Instagram but have never quite been brave enough until now…

At the start of this year I decided to start up my photography business again. Within a few weeks Matthew and I found out there was a little miracle growing inside me and this was the most wonderful news, but I began to worry about starting up a business whilst we prepared to welcome Baby Mac in to our lives and I wondered if it was the right thing to do. After much thought I decided that being my own boss, getting to choose my own hours and set my own work limit was a great privilege when you’re raising a child, so I should go for it!

I did online training courses in lighting and posing to refresh my knowledge and skill set and got great inspiration for photo shoots. But my confidence was incredibly low, I was constantly battling with asking couples to “model” for me to freshen up my portfolio and worrying that the images would be terrible and I’d just be wasting their time.

There are so many fantastic photographers in this country, and I am so so guilty of comparison, as many of us are in this social media mad world (if you’re not guilty of doing this, please teach me your ways!). I thought “What’s the point in me adding another business to this Industry? I’ll never get hired instead of those photographers because their work is incredible.” And for months I’ve just plodded on, not having the confidence to promote myself, and feeling more and more flat about the fact that I’m sitting at home doing nothing most days (apart from daily dog walks, housewife tasks and growing a human), when I should be out doing some kind of work to help provide for our growing family!

Matthew has been the most wonderful husband I could ever have asked for! It’s not easy being married to an anxious, introverted, creative but God brought us together and I am so so thankful for that.

Today I want to stop hiding, and making excuses and be brave by being honest and making myself accountable…

Photography makes me happy! I don’t need to be the best in the industry and win loads of awards. I just long to capture fun, happy images of couples in love, for them to treasure for the rest of their lives. What does it matter if there are hundreds of other photographers across the country. We should all be supporting each other (and going on holiday together so we can take cute pictures for each other)!! And if I can provide beautiful images for even just a few couples and families each year then that’s all I need. This miracle baby is going to be my main priority in just a few quick months but I’m gonna need something to do on the afternoons they’re kidnapped by their grandparents!

So, firstly, thank you for reading this far, and secondly, if you like my work, and know of anyone in Aberdeen or Inverness who might like it too please spread the word and get Catriona Elizabeth Photography out there so it gets me off my butt and in front of some beautiful souls!

If you’re a fun-loving couple interested in helping me freshen up my portfolio with a mixture of silliness and snuggles then please get in touch and tell me a bit about your story.

I decided to have a go at some artwork for Baby Mac’s future bedroom. I’m kind of a fan of Peter Pan, so of course I want some cute Peter Pan quotes! I’ve scanned them and put them on my laptop for further play, but I’ll probably end up writing them out a few more times until I’m completely happy, and may add some watercolour fun in to the final product too…we shall see!
